News-eum

June 16, 2008

I just returned home from a wonderful trip to the Newseum in D.C. I got one thing to say: LOVED IT!

First of all, before even getting to the actual content, the building is be-you-tee-full, the technology is state of the art, and the layout is fantastic (unless you’re very, very afraid of heights, then be sure to avoid the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-esqe elevators).

Now for the content. It was stunning. There was an exhibit all about the first amendment and the five rights (can you name them? double the percentage of people can name the Simpsons than the five rights of the first amendment.) Another dealt with the pres’s reactions to 9/11, a third showcased over 100 front pages from this morning (yes, they change them daily.)

The newseum (never gets old) also focuses many different theaters, all free. One shows clips from news reports spanning the 20th and 21st centuries, while my favorite, the sports theater, played a very interesting short film on the progression of sports reporting since its origins.

Anyway, if you’re ever in DC, this is a 100% can’t miss opportunity.

GYA

quick correction the newseum is not free, but still very worth the 8 or 10 dollars plus if you pay extra you can enter a studio where you can make your own mini newscast

wajigmas belated review of indiana jones 4 kingdom of the crystal skull

June 16, 2008

ttatog here after seeing the fourth installment in the indiana jones series. ive decided to start ranking videos 3 ways: see in theaters, see on videos and avoid at all costs. im giving indiana jones 4 a see on video.

now the movie itself was ok, shia labuff was pretty cool, despite being as shia said at one point “like 80″ harrison ford was able to bring back the indiana jones we all know and love, but other than that the acting was mediocre at best.

the plot was laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame. director george lucas has made this movie much more fantastical then they have ever been before by including interdimensional species. now thats all i want to give away but i gotta say they rly were not that great. other than that it followed the same plot line the rest did. indiana looses an artifact in an epic battle to open up the movie, he finds one of his friends is missing, then they have some cryptic clue that indiana solves and they fly off you know the drill.

oh right one more spoiler the nazis have been replaced with the KGB and yes you guessed it the red scare plays a huge part of the movie.

the special effects were bad, they seemed to cartoony at the end. although you could tell that lucas tried to tribute the other movies in small ways such as the fight coreography having the same corny sound effects, and other things that im not going to give away.

is indi back? i hope not, im begining to sense that george lucas has passed his prime. his movies over the last few years have been hollow and as i was walking out i saw a cinematic poster for… starwars: the clones wars the animated version. WHY?! GOD WHY?! so mabye there will be a fifth but who knows mabye old harrison ford will get a hernia while jumping or something. or mabye it will be called “indiana jones 5 journey for the lost nursing home” but i think that they should have been left at 3 movies and i hope that the damage stops here.

again see this movie wen it comes out on dvd or if u have 10 bucks lying around

ttatog out
